Cygnet programme

A parenting support programme for parents and carers of children and young people with an autistic spectrum condition.

Cygnet has been developed by looking at what is done in existing parenting support programmes, examining research findings, a pilot parenting programme  and in partnership with parents/carers and practitioners. Cygnet has been developed, managed, funded and run with multi-agency support. The trainers who present this programme will all have a detailed knowledge of autism and come from a variety of backgrounds.

Parents views:

“Fantastic! Really enjoyable and helpful!”

“Our biggest problems are related to behaviour so understanding our son’s behaviour properly is a very big step!”

“This has given me the tools to help with my child’s communication.”

“I can now identifying my child’s sensory issues and have an idea of practical strategies.”

“The support of other group members is really valuable.”

What the National Training Awards judges thought:

“Barnardo’s Cygnet training was considered to be exemplary by our team of regional and UK judges; they were particularly impressed with the contribution these programmes are making along with strong elements of training best practice being shown and further development potential being demonstrated for the future.”
